Yes, still alive
Sorry for the extended absence. We’ve been busy getting our place in order around here, settling into our new jobs, flying all over the place for weddings and figuring out how to avoid parking tickets (if only). I have to say that Philadelphia is a great place to live. There’s so much to do and we love living in the middle of everything. We’ve probably eaten out 10 times since we’ve moved here and still haven’t tried all the places just on our block.
About a month after starting my new job, the Courier-Post laid off about 35 people, which is significant for a smaller paper. The newsroom staff only lost two people who were already planning to leave, so I got lucky. Certainly, it’s even more apparent after seeing layoffs at two companies in less than half a year that I can’t expect to have a life-long career as a reporter. I hope I’m wrong because I love what I do. But I’m sure glad I have a masters degree so that I can teach full time if I need to.
In other news, Seth is having fun at Comcast so far. I knew I picked the wrong industry when I saw the 25 cent snacks at his old company. Now he’s got FREE yogurt covered pretzels and gummy bears less than 30 feet from his desk! I guess it’s in my waistline’s best interest that we don’t have endless supplies of free candy at the newspaper. Speaking of which, I’m looking forward to getting back into shape soon. In October I’ll begin teaching cardio dance exercises here, possibly at two different gyms.
We should also be around on the weekends for a change starting next month. That means the Market Street Suite is officially open for reservations so come visit!
