Goodbye Charcoal

Posted by Deborah

Charcoal, my mean little gray cockatiel, mysteriously died this morning. As far as I could tell, he never liked me or much of anything for that matter. But he was quite a feisty character and he’ll be missed. Among his talents: barking like a dog, wolf whistling, hissing, climbing up wires and draperies to get back to his cage and inching up to your shoulder no matter how hard you tried to keep him down lower. And, as you can see, he was incredibly cute.

I’m hoping that his sister, Sunny, hangs on without him. I’ve heard that pairs of birds often die within days of each other because they simply can’t handle the loss of the strong bond they formed. If any bird lovers reading this have tips on how to prevent that from happening, I would love to hear about them.
