Airport security gets even more personal
You know, I’d heard about the idea of using facial scans as a security measure, but I never expected it would reach mainstream airport security. Britain is apparently going to start testing it out this summer. See this BBC article.
Frankly, this kind of bothers me. I can understand using such high-tech measures when trying to enter a place like the Pentagon or a high profile bank or something like that. But a plane? Shouldn’t metal detectors and bans on liquids and alerts on people with suspicious backgrounds be enough?
Maybe I’m underestimating how many attempted plane takeovers the world faces every year. But this kind of system has to cost a lot of money. It seems to make more sense to me to put that money toward something more essential, like feeding starving people or developing jobs.
