Posadas and Hanukah

Posted by Deborah

The holiday season has certainly started around here. Hanukah started in early December. I couldn’t get to Mexico City this time, so I went to the Jewish nursing home to light candles and say my goodbyes to Samuel Bigeleisen, the religious leader who’s been so welcoming to me.

That weekend, I also went to my first posada, a pre-Christmas party that usually involves a hot fruit cider called ponche, piñatas, and a play/song about Mary looking for shelter before giving birth. Watching adults blindly attack the piñatas was one of the most amusing things I’ve seen in a long time.

Iole as Mary. I’m listening for Jesus.

Andrea takes a swing at the piñata. Notice Nadia covering her eyes in the background!
