Spreading Jewish culture

Well, who knows. But I wrote an article about Yom Kippur/the Jewish high holidays in general, for The Jornada. It’s not my best – I hate to write stories with only one live interview. But none of the four synagogues in D.F. that said they would return my call did so, even after multiple calls from me. I’m guessing that they weren’t interested in attracting any attention to their shuls. It’s certainly more touchy to be Jewish here. But it would’ve made my life easier if they’d just explained that they weren’t interested in an interview from the start! At least they can’t complain if the information I got from a Web site was out of date, since nobody would help me verify it. Oh well. More to come soon on my weekend in D.F., where I celebrated Yom Kippur with a local family and attended the ballet with my school.
