Orfanatorio
This is a photo of some of the orphans I’ve been working with at the Centro de Atencion al Menor on Mondays. The kids are very sweet, and always excited to talk to the volunteers. Here, they’re singing us a song.

I’ve been leading an English class, other volunteers play soccer or basketball with the kids. Supposedly, none of the orphans will stay here more than three months – by that time, social workers will have placed them with relatives or a foster home. But I suspect this isn’t always the case. Sarayi, below, told me that she’ll be moving to the Salvation Army at the end of August. So essentially she’s just moving from one orphanage to another.

Here, I’m working with Sarayi and Rosario on sentences with the verb “to be.”
The orphanage director told me that they’re in desperate need of a new minibus (the one they have is always broken and so run down that it’s dangerous even when it does work) and an industrial size washing machine (they have three, all are broken). If you know of any US companies that would be willing to donate or give a discount on either of these things, please let me know. I think I could raise the money to ship the items here.

Shipping furniture or appliances is really expensive. It would be better to get $ donated from someone and then buy a working machine in Cuernavaca, I think.
