Lucha Libre!
I’m still in awe of the VIP movie theater here, but I think the Mexican wrestling match we attended Thursday tops my list this week. What a wild experience. The crowd was shouting and cursing and throwing garbage in the ring the whole time. You could tell the fighting was fake (though some of the falls sure looked painful), but spectators on the ground floor still jumped back every time the action drew the wrestlers out of the ring. I certainly wasn’t expecting to see the fighters falling into viewers’ laps or advancing menacingly toward hecklers (we saw that firsthand since some of my friends got a little carried away!)
Out of the four rounds we saw, the females were by far the most fun to watch. The men would slam each other down and then walk around or rest on the side before going back for more punches. But the women never let up. They were constantly flipping and throwing each other. One of these days, I’ll get an account set up on U-Tube so I can show you the videos.

(Michelle and I in the ring before the show started.)

Also this week, I went to a Rotary club meeting with my temporary counselor, Hector Ordonez. Everyone was very nice and we had a great meal at a beautiful hotel in northwest Cuernavaca. I’ll be back next week to do my formal presentation.
Friday I had to say goodbye to several classmates: a whole group from Colorado, fellow Rotarian David (who now heads to a university in Monterrey for the academic year), and Meghan (who heads back to college in New Mexico). As a goodbye party, we met for drinks at a famous restaurant/hotel called Las Mananitas, then had dinner at the more affordable but also well-known restaurant La India Bonita, and finished up with some dancing at Club Juarez downtown.
