More bylines

If you want to test your Spanish smarts, click here to read my article on baile folklorico in Cuernavaca.

I was a little surprised – well, make that very surprised – to see a double byline because the only changes I could discern from my original were some cuts. My editor explained that he needed some tinks to make the background information stronger and they wanted to give credit to the reporter who did that. When I went back and compared the printed version word for word with my original I could see some tiny things here and there – the word “cosmos” added, a phrase about the ruins of the pyramid, etc…In the U.S. we’d do a credit line at the bottom of the story unless the secondary reporter added several lines of text, but whatever. I’m trying to go along with the way things are done here, as much as it pains me sometimes!

Also, if you get a chance, check out Enterese, the Observer’s Spanish blog. I hadn’t been contributing much since I got down here because I was afraid I couldn’t since I’m technically not supposed to be working while I’m on leave. But I think it’s okay because I’m not getting paid, so I’ve started sending stuff in. I’ve got something up there about Britney Spears appearing in the Mexican media and most recently, some of my impressions of Mexican Independence Day. You can always get to the blog from the link on the right navigation bar of this site.
