I did a double take today when I noticed “Charlotte, NC” mentioned in a local paper here, the Diario de Morelos. It was an article about the arrest of at least 74 undocumented workers in and around Charlotte, NC, last week. I was surprised that this far away event would appear in the local news. But I was even more surprised when I later came home and found no trace of the same news in The Observer. I’m sure it’s hard sometimes to find out about deportations in time to write a story, not to mention the difficulty of following up later when reporters are pressed for time on other breaking news. Still, I wish these events were publicized more often because they’re part of an important, ongoing issue.

thanks for sending this John, it makes me feel better to know that this event made news locally – in English media – as well.
